Don't

  • Don't complain to others about it.
  • Don't bring it up unless it's affecting your work or driving customers away.
If not, get over it and get on with it!
  • Don't be sarcastic, even in joking.
"Hey, Dan, if you can hear me above the sound of your radio, could you turn it down?"
  • Don't react to it publicly
Example: "Hey gang, sounds like our personal disc jockey is at it again. Any requests?"

Do

  1. Get him alone.

  2. Describe the irritation.
Example: "Dan, I know you enjoy listening to music during the day, but sometimes the volume gets pretty high."

  3. Explain the problems it causes.
Example: "And that background noise makes it hard for me to concentrate on my work."

  4. Ask for what you need.
Example: "Can you keep the volume down, please? Thanks."
